8:00 P.M. Richmond Symphony Join me for the Symphony's Pop concert: Swing & All That Jazz. Boogie to the swingin' sounds of Ellington, Dorsey and the greats of the Big Band era. 7:00 P.M. Ballroom Dancing Dance with the USABDA regulars until 9:30 P.M. at The Dance Space at  6004 West Broad Street St. Wear lightweight shoes that glide. $5 for USBDA members; $7 for nonmembers.

Mon, May 03

7:00 P.M. Council Meeting. To add items to the agenda leave a message on the Solo/Discovery Information Line, 257.0020. Arrive at 6:30 if you plan to eat at Aunt Sarah's Pancake House, 7927 W. Broad (between Parham and Hungary Springs).  We decided to try another location and have reserved their meeting room. (see map Color or Black&White)

8:00 P.M. Discovery Meeting.  Doors open at 7:45 P.M.and the discussions begin at 8:15.   The meeting will be at Roslyn Retreat Pavilion on 8727 River Road one-half mile east of Parham (see map Color or Black&White).   $3 members; $4 others.

Sat, May 8

1:00 P.M. Kanahaw Canal Cruise We have two choices on which type cruise you would like to join me** on . First is a 35 minute cruise $5 per person and we could walk up a street to Sine' Irish Pub. For the second choice, we can rent the entire boat for an hour, cost $95 plus tip (we'd divide it up amongst all of us) and with this type cruise, we can bring our own food and drink aboard (which would be less costly than going out to eat afterwards) - your choice, tell me your preference when responding. The boat has a covered top so rain or shine it would be fun! Walk over the bridge and lets meet by the ticket booth. RSVP before Thursday, May 6th at 285-1970 or email. 2:00 P.M. Hollywood Cemetery Meet at Albemarle and Cherry in Oregon Hill for this 2 hour walking tours examines the art , architecture & landscapedesigns in the magnificent cemetery park , and also discusses biographiesof the notable tenants. Walk is approximately 2.5 miles with numeroushills. Bring water. Fee: $7 at gate/$6 advance registration (643-0711) Benefits the ValentineMuseum. Sponsor/Guide: Kathy Whittington.

6:00 P.M. Mother's Day Concert Join us for a fun concert by the Richmond Concert Band as they celebrate Mother's Day on the beautiful lawn of Agecroft Hall. The concert is free and the gates will open at 6:00. Remember to bring your lawn chair or blanket and a picnic dinner if you so desire. 6:30 P.M. Old School Freight Train Located at Ashland Coffee and Tea. Meet me at Regency Square at the Applebee's entrance to car pool to Ashland or meet me there at 7 PM. This is a great group of musicians who play acoustic instruments. Some of the styles they play are bluegrass, jazz, classical, Latin and funk, which reflects the members' musical training. The band starts playing at 8:00 PM but we can go early and have a light supper before they begin. For more details, go to the AC&T and/or the Old School Freight Train web sites. 1:00 P.M. Walking on Belle Island. Meet me at the parking lot at Tredgar Iron Works on the west side of Tredgar St. which is at the end of S 5th St. We will then take a walk on Belle Island. Please RSVP to Roger at 340-1880 for more information and to ensure participation.

8:00 P.M. Play Join me for the Henrico Theatre Company's production of Beau Jest at the Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center on Mountain Road (by Woodman). Tickets are $8 and I have made 3 extra reservations. They will go to the first 3 people to call me at 342-7495. Otherwise you can make a reservation at 501-5859 M-F 9-4pm. 2:00 P.M. Shockoe Slip & the Canals Meet at the James Center Clock Tower, 10th & East Cary. The 2 hr walking tour discusses the history and architecture of ShockoeSlip, this history of the canals, and examines the current projects which are revitalizing this lively warehouse district. Great views of the river & downtown. Walk is approx 2 miles. Terrain is fairly flat. Fees: $7 walk up/$6 w/credit card (643-0711) benefits the Valentine Museum. Sponsor/Guide: Kathy Whittington.

11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Memorial Day Picnic Join us at the Roslyn Center Pavilion at 8727 River Road one quarter mile east of the intersection with Parham. We will start at 11am to socialize &/walk, then we will start the Grill at 11:45am and eat from 12-1. If it is not raining we will play Volleyball from 1-2 and swim from 2-3. If it looks like rain bring along some indoor games. All singles are welcome and we have invited other singles groups. Bring your own food to grill and bring a dish to share. Solo will provide the condiments, beverages and paper products. Cost: $3 members and $5 for others. RSVP is requested before Sun May 30th by 5pm to Sara at 342-7495.
